Colt model 1855 Root revolver, second variation, .28 caliber, in fine original condition, retaining most of its original blue finish, varnish wood grips, serial #19576. The Root shows 90-95% bright and inky blue finish on the left side (case upside). The right side shows 50-70% original blue, some drifting on the right front of frame and barrel, and some pitting and erosion in these areas. The grips show 90-95% original varnish, just a few minor scratches and marks, with a nicegrain. The hammer and loading lever show bright and vivid case hardening on left side, some loss and erosion on right (or down) side. The cylinder shows 90-95% light original scene. The interior is excellent, and the pistol is basically unused. The wear and loss of finish on the right side would indicate moisture accumulated in a case with affected the right side of the pistol. A very caseable Root as the left side is superb. Est: $3,000 - $6,000
