Colt model 1855 Root revolver, .28 caliber percussion, 3-1/2” octagon barrel with pointing hand, serial #817. Early 2nd model. The Root shows approx. 30-50% original blue drifting on cylinder and barrel and edges of frame. Some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting, some slightly heavier pitting on the back of the cylinder. The cylinder shows 60-70% of the cylinder scene with Colt’s patent mostly visible. The edges are good, markings good, generally good overall. The varnish wood grips show approx. 75% of their original finish. Edges show some slight wear, minor marks, at least very good. Action good, bore good. The pistol is contained within its original to the period brownish velveteen lined partition style case which is in good original condition showing some minor aging, slight fraying, minor wear at contact points, but is at least very good. The brass .28 caliber mould with screw cutter is included, as well as a small size eagle flask and a small cap tin by Winchester. The top inner edge of the case shows an old #392 that is taped that were the type numbers used by James Servern in the 1950’s era, from whom Mr. Coulter obtained this Root. The
