Colt model 1855 Root model 5, .31 caliber percussion, fluted cylinder, unusual 3-1/4” barrel, blued finish, wood grips, serial number “3773”. The revolver shows approx. 20-40% original blue drifting to brown with some scattered light to moderate erosion and surface pitting and some slightly heavier pitting on the right side of barrel and lug. Patent dates are sharp on the cylinder. The grips show some losses at the heel, and a couple of large chips missing, and are only fair overall. The grip screw and butt are missing, the marking are sharp, the action is good, and generally good to very good overall. Purchased 4/10/1940 from Charles DuPont from Theodore Bucklew of Wilmington, Delaware, who was a close associate or inlaw of the DuPont family.
