Colt model 1855 Root 5A variation, .31 caliber, scarce 4-1/2” barrel, blued finish, wood grips, serial number “9561”. The revolver remains in original good to very good condition showing 20-30% original blue, drifting to a silvery grey patina with some scattered light to moderate erosion and surface pitting, some areas of heavier pitting on the bottom of the frame and cylinder. The barrel address is sharp and clear, the cylinder retains 20-30% scene that is light. The ivory grips are good but slightly undersized and possibly from another Root. The action is good, generally good overall. Some mars on the cylinder pin, edges, and marks from removal, but nothing serious. Purchased by Charles DuPont from James Serven, noted Colt author and expert on 2/1/1944. With DuPont inventory sheet that states the rare barrel length. Est: $900 - $1,800
