Colt model 1851 Navy .36 caliber Percussion Revolver engraved with silver Tiffany style grips showing inscription “General Mariano Escobedo” in block letters on butt. Serial #107965. Made about 1863. This revolver was custom engraved by R.L. Barnard for Robert Elz in mid 1970's with silver grips by “Charlie” Marsh. The fitting, finish and polishing by Ron MacWillis, Sr. Robert Elz was known for his excellent recreations of 19th century Colt masterpieces. Elz started with fine guns that would be worth high dollars before their “transformation.” It would cost over $10,000 plus the price of a good navy to custom make one today! This exact Colt was sold to a prominent dealer as a copy for $7000 when Elz created it more than 35 years ago. A show piece that you can let friends handle and enjoy! Great patina. Est.: $4000 - $8000.
