Colt model 1848 baby Dragoon, .31 caliber percussion, 4” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, varnish wood grips, serial number “7609”. The revolver remains in very good original condition with strong traces of original blue and case hardening drifting to a light patina but at least 10-20% finishes remaining overall. Some scattered erosion and surface pitting and normal aging. The edges are fairly sharp, the barrel address is good. The cylinder shows approx. 40-60% light original Indian fighting scene with some figures well defined. The patent marking on the frame is very crisp and legible. The frame and hammer show smoky case hardening within their patina. The varnish wood grips are very good plus with 40-60% original varnish, some wear at the edges, minor dings and mars, but at least very good overall. The trigger guard and backstrap show 30-40% darkened original silver plate. The cylinder shows very sharp Colt patent marking and all matching visible serial numbers. A very crisp specimen. Purchased 11/6/1938 by Charles DuPont from John Doahay. Of Wilmington, Delaware, who was either a close family associate or inlaw. With original inventory sheet. This baby Dragoon was originally cased and now that case has been separated and an original to-the-period plugged bottom leather holster is included. Est: $3,500 - $7,000
