Colt model 1848 Baby Dragoon, .31 caliber percussion, 5” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, varnish wood grips, serial number “7054”. The Colt remains in original very good plus condition showing 40-60% evenly drifting and thinning blue finish with some beginning erosion and pinprick pitting and normal aging. The edges are sharp, the reverse barrel address is crisp. The cylinder shows 75-85% original Indian fighting scene with mostly well-defined figures. The cylinder also shows sharp Colt’s patent marking. The cylinder has drifted to patina with some slight erosion and a few nicks, mars, scratches, and darkening. The frame and hammer show 40-60% smoky case hardening with a natural patina. There are some slight marks at the edges of the recoil shield at bottom of the frame. The grips remain in very good plus condition with 40-60% varnish, some even wear, small scratches, slight losses, normal wear and aging. The backstrap and triggerguard show 75-85% original thick silver plate that has darkened. The action is crisp, the interior very good, all matching visible serial numbers. A very crisp and completely original baby Dragoon with a lot of finish and scene. Included original inventory sheet from the Charles DuPont collection, purchased by him, 1944, from Paul Matthews, Wilmington, Delaware. Originally cased, but now separated. Est: $6,000 - $12,000
