Colt factory engraved SAA revolver, 44-40 cal., 4-3/4” barrel, re-nickeled finish, Colt medallion ivory grips, #172488. This gun was formerly in the famous Charlie Schreiner III collection with direct family documentation to Terrell County, Texas Sheriff J.J. Nance who was in office from 1918 to 1928. The gun was stolen after his death and later recovered by his son, James S. Nance who was a Texas Ranger from Sierra Blanca, Texas. Accompanying this historic Colt SAA is an original letter from son James, dated October 31, 1956, on Texas Ranger letterhead selling it to a Carlos D. Critser of Globe, Arizona and a factory letter that confirms factory engraving, barrel length and caliber (gun was originally blued with rubber grips) showing it was shipped to Hartley & Graham, New York, New York on Sept. 4, 1897, one gun in shipment. Also included are Sheriff Nance’s Terrell Co. Sheriff’s badge and his son James’ Texas Ranger badge. This gun retains approx. 98% of the old re-nickel finish showing polishing and lightening of markings; good bore, action and grips which although closely fitting are probably from another later Colt SAA and in overall good condition showing some cracking, minor age checking and yellow patina. The gun is accompanied by an El Paso Saddlery tooled cartridge belt and unmarked holster. From the Richard Wolfe Estate. Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
