Colt (conversion) .38 caliber rimfire, 5-shot cylinder, 3-1/2” round cartridge era made barrel, 1871/72 patent dates. Made without loading gate or ejector rod housing. Nickel finish, varnish wood grips, serial #310048. Actually made as a New Model breech loading pocket pistol, but has long been identified by collectors as a conversion. Refer Variations of Colt New Police and Pocket Breech Loading Pistols by Breslin, Pirie, and Price page 75. Flayderman 5B-132. The revolver remains in original very good plus condition with approx. 60-80% original nickel, some drifting on the cylinder, backstrap and edges. The cylinder shows 75% scene. There is some minor erosion and pinprick pitting where the finish has lifted, and some loss on the backstrap. The varnish wood grips show 60% varnish. Many small nicks and mars. A couple of chips at the edges, and some dings on the butt from tacking. The pistol shows all matching serial numbers. The action tight. The barrel address slightly light but legible. A very good example. Est: $900 - $1,800
