Colt Woodsman .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol factory engraved by W.H. Gough and 3 gold initials in monogram on left side of frame, original blue finish, diamond checkered wood grips, serial number 4485.Factory letter confirms shipped soft to J.B. Shannon Hardware Company Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ,November 28, 1916, on Colt factory order number 792, 1 gun in shipment, under remarks, the letter further states that “the records indicate that this subject pistol was returned to the factory for bluing and reshipped to W.H. Gough on January 23, 1917. At this time, the records note the pistol was engraved”. Also the letter notesthat Gough was an engraver for colt during this period. The pistol shows fine quality scroll engraving and the characteristic bull’s-eye engraved on rear frame. The left front of frame shows the initials JVD inlayed in gold. The Woodsman retains 80% to 90% original blue with some drifting and loss towards the front 3” on the edges of the barrel. Otherwise this Colt is fine to excellent and the grips are of select quality
