Colt Whitneyville Hartford Dragoon .44 Cal
SN: 1194 ‘Transitional Walker’ Extremely rare .44 caliber single action percussion revolver manufactured circa late 1847. The Whitneyville Hartford Dragoon is the scarcest of all Colt production models with only 240 produced, of which approximately only 15 are known to collectors today. This one was formally in the iconic Frank Singer Collection and is currently consigned by the major Texas gun collectors estate of Dale Strong. In Singers’ articles for the Colt Collectors Association concerning Colt Dragoons Pistols, he remarked this revolver has had minor restoration, remarking of number on cylinder and light to moderate pitting & erosion. Features a 7 1/2" part octagon barrel, German silver blade front sight, ‘v’ notch rear sight cut into the tip of the hammer, loading lever with vertical style latch, non-fluted six-shot cylinder with oval stops & roll stamped “Ranger and Indian Fight” scene, short trigger, checkered hammer spur, brass backstrap that slants backwards towards the grip, square back triggerguard, steel backstrap, and one-piece smooth walnut grip. The serial number 1194 is found on the barrel lug, frame, triggerguard, backstrap, cylinder, loading lever, cylinder base pin, and barrel wedge. The barrel is stamped "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY-" and the frame reads "COLTS/PATENT/U.S.". Revolver bears an aged mottle grey patina with moderate pitting (predominately on the right side). Action is mechanically sound, the bore is very good, markings are legible with approximately 20% of the cylinder scene intact, and the walnut grip with good with blemishes & small losses. Condition is NRA Good ***Antique Firearm***
