Colt U.S. Artillery Model SAA revolver, .45 cal., 5-1/2” barrel, blue and case hardened factory or arsenal re-finish, wood grips, #56660 on frame, #133253 on the trigger guard, no visible serial number on the back strap or cylinder. This gun is in overall very good to excellent condition showing approx. 90% original arsenal or factory re-blue on the barrel assembly and cylinder with approx. 90% case colors on the frame and hammer; the action is crisp, the markings sharp and the bore is excellent. The frame is D.F.C. inspected while the cylinder is R.A.C. stamped on the back side; the barrel is also R.A.C. stamped on the underside at the breech; the grips are very good to excellent with an R.A.C. stamp on the bottom of the left grip but no visible cartouches. This gun is accompanied by a copy of page 122 in Kopec’s book “Colt Cavalry and Artillery Revolvers . . . a Continuing Study that indicates serial #56660 was part of a shipment of Artillery revolvers sent to Battery D, 5th U.S. Artillery, likely for the unit as it was about to ship out to the Philippines. A really sharp Artillery with identifiable history that should be further researched. Est.: $5,000-$10,000.
