Colt Third Model Dragoon with Scarce Eight inch Barrel

Manufactured in 1860, this Third Model Dragoon was one of the last produced and is fitted with the 8 inch barrel. All 8 inch models are found above serial number 18,000 and purportedly Colt manufactured less than 200 total of this rare barrel length. The top barrel flat is marked "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY-" and the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT". The complete matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, cylinder and back strap with the partial number "8770" on the loading lever and barrel wedge. The barrel and cylinder were blue, frame, loading lever assembly and hammer casehardened and the round brass trigger guard and back strap silver plated. Brass blade front and hammer notch rear sights, and fitted with a smooth one piece walnut grip.

Manufucture: Colt

Guage: 44 percussion
Finish: blue/casehardened/silver

Fair as refinished/regripped. The revolver has a smooth gray artificial patina showing overall pitting. The markings on barrel and frame are faint, but legible and the cylinder scene is not visible. The grip straps have a bright appearance. The slightly ill-fitting replacement grip is fair with a heavily worn spot near the bottom (right side). Mechanically functions but needs some adjustment.
