Colt Third Model Dragoon revolver, converted to cartridge, likely on the frontier, .44 cal., cut-down barrel to 5-3/4”, brown finish, wood grips, #16921. This gun is in overall good condition as period modifiedshowing a dark brown patina with scattered areas of erosion and some moderate pitting on the cylinder, blacksmith-style conversion, good action, dark bore with strong rifling, rammer removed; cut for shoulder stockvariation, “U.S.” marked frame, iron backstrap, brass trigger guard; overall good grips with wear and some scattered old mars from carry and storage. This gun has the classic appearance of what is frequentlyknown as a “Mormon Avenger” referring to a handgun modified for concealment. Est.: $2,500-$5,000.
