Manufactured in 1860, this Third Model Dragoon was one of the last produced and is fitted with the 8 inch barrel. All 8 inch models are found above serial number 18000 and reportedly (unconfirmed) Colt manufactured less than 200 total of this rare barrel length. The top barrel flat is marked "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY-" and the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT". The complete matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, cylinder and back strap, partial serial number "9239" on the cylinder pin and the wedge is mismatched. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas Ranger/Indian battle scene, the barrel and cylinder were blue, frame, loading lever assembly and hammer casehardened and the round brass trigger guard and back strap silver plated. Brass blade front and hammer notch rear sights, and fitted with a smooth one piece walnut grip.

The trigger guard and back strap have an aged patina with traces of the dark original silver in protected areas. The modern replacement grip is near mint with a few small minor dings. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
