Colt Third Model Dragoon Percussion Revolver
This U.S. Colt Third Model Dragoon was manufactured in 1853. The revolver has the round brass trigger guard and rectangular cylinder stops found on Third Model Dragoons. The top flat of the half-round barrel is roll-stamped: "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY-" reading toward the breech. The left side of the frame has the "COLTS / PATENT" marking over "U.S.". The left trigger guards front is stamped with a small "V", the left shoulder with a small "X", the right shoulder and top of backstrap, left upper grip and cylinder are marked with a small "K". The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Ranger and Indian fight scene and "MODEL U.S.M.R./COLT'S PATENT" legend and clear serial number. The complete matching serial number is stamped on the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and backstrap, and the professionally remarked partial number "3129" on the loading lever. The wedge is restamped to match number 3129. Standard brass blade front sight and hammer notch rear sight and fitted with smooth one piece walnut grips with a cartouche on the bottom of each side.

Very good plus as partially restored (see above). The metal surfaces have a crisp smooth mottled brown patina with scattered strong traces of the original blue finish on the barrel lug. The frame shows much of the original casehardening pattern. The grip is very good with some lower edge wear, a small chip and pressure dent on the right side, a few minor dings on the bottoms and visible cartouches. The brass has an aged patina, a little brighter on the grip straps from handling. The trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder serial numbers have been renumbered. The cylinder scene is clear and all markings are clear. The action is very fine. No matter what few minor faults this revolver has, it is still an attractive and mostly original representative U.S. Colt Dragoon that would compliment any Colt collection!
