Colt Third Model Dragoon Cartridge with Holster
Manufactured in 1854 and subsequently Blacksmith converted to rimfire. The loading lever has been removed and the upper slot crudely filled and the nipples have been removed and the back of the chambers bored out to accommodate cartridge ammunition. A piece of iron has been braised into the hammer face to convert it to rimfire. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line New York address, the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS / PATENT" and the matching serial number is marked on the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and backstrap. The replacement grip has carved outer bordering. Complete with a period holster.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch part-octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 44 RF
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 13033
Condition: Fair as period converted to cartridge. The metal surfaces have a gray patina with overall moderate pitting. The brass has a dark aged patina. The wedge is a replacement. The action needs work. The under sized grips are about good with chips on each toe and a few minor dents and dings. The markings are readable. The holster is fair, the flap is absent and the leather is cracking and peeling. To say the least, an interesting conversion.
