According to the included factory letter, this revolver was shipped to Hibbard, Spencer & Company, Chicago, Illinois, on 4 August 1880 in a shipment of 30 guns. The letter confirms the serial number, caliber, barrel length, nickel finish and hard rubber grips. Standard two line Hartford barrel address, "COLT D.A. 38" etched on the left side of the barrel, "38 CAL" on the left side of trigger guard and three line patent dates marking on the left side of the frame. Matching serial number on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap. Fitted with checkered grips with Rampant Colt imprints.

Condition: Very fine. The cylinder was period replated, with the remainder original, showing 85% of the finish with some minor loss at the muzzle, some scattered very light flaking and some minor dings on the frame near the cylinder pin. The hammer and trigger retain approximately 80% original niter blue finish. The grips are very fine with some scattered mild dings in the overall crisp checkering. The acid etched caliber panel marking is clear. Mechanically excellent.
