Colt Small Frame Lightning Slide Action Rifle
This is a very fine original example of a Colt Lightning small frame rifle that was manufactured in 1904. This final year production rifle has a high polish blue finish on the octagon barrel, half-magazine and frame. The hammer is casehardened and the trigger is niter blue. The walnut stock and plain forearm have an oil finish. The black, hard rubber, buttplate is checkered and is embossed with an encircled Rampant Colt trademark. The barrel is fitted with a dovetailed steel front sight and the fixed aperture rear sight for .22 caliber rifles. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the two-line Hartford address and "'83-'87" patent dates ahead of the rear sight. "22 CAL." is engraved on the left barrel flat between the rear sight and the receiver. The Rampant Colt trademark is roll-stamped on the left side of the receiver. The serial number, "80271" is stamped on the lower barrel tang. 1904 was the last year of production for this outstanding slide-action rifle.

Very fine. The rifle retains 90% of the original, high polish blue finish on the receiver. Nearly 95% of the original blue is present on the barrel and the magazine. The finish is thin on the lower receiver, trigger guard and tang and there are some scattered, minor, scratches on the bolt and sides of the receiver. The hammer retains most of the vivid case colors. The markings on the barrel and receiver are crisp and the bore is bright. The stock and forearm are both in very fine condition with most of the original finish and scattered, minor, handling marks. This is a very fine example of one of the scarce Colt small frame slide-action .22 caliber rifles.
