Colt Single Action U.S. Artillery Series 45 Colt caliber 5-1/2” barrel, frame number 8814 with documenting letter from noted Colt expert and author John A. Kopec. Mr. Kopec states there’s a good possibility thisrevolver when in its original cavalry configuration served with the 8th cav (Buffalo soldiers) as several numbers in this range were recorded as 8th cavalry arms in the National archives. Factory letter alsoincluded notes this number shipped to Springfield Armory August 21st 1903 in 317 gun shipment and Kopec documents that Colt refurbished this revolver. The pistol shows RAC inspections on right grip and bottom ofeach grip. The trigger guard is numbered 83861, the back strap is numbered 115710 and is near a documented 8th cav revolver also. The barrel and cylinder are noted to be Colt made replacements. Kopec mentions a error in stamping (1) number and closes his letter rating this as an exceptional Artillery revolver.
