Colt Single Action Army revolver in .44-40 caliber, 4 ¾” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, hard rubber grips, serial number 338801. This Colt shows the desirable roll dye marked “Colt Frontier Six Shooter .44-40” barrel marking. The revolver remains in very good condition with approximately 80% to 90% original blue on barrel with some wear at the edge of the ejector rod housing and the muzzle. The cylinder shows 20% to 40% original blue with some scratches, minor pitting, light cleaning and normal aging. The frame shows 35% to 50% case hardening drifting to gray with some good color still showing particularly at the edges and where protected. The back strap and trigger guard show 30% to 50% darkened original blue. The hammer shows 50% to 70% case hardening going slightly dark. The markings are sharp and the edges are crisp. The front sight is its full original height and shark fin shaped. The action is working. The bore is very good and still bright. The grips fit well and shows some slight edge wear. There is a number 17612 on the butt and another number 14343 stamped on the rear of the frame. Both of these numbers were struck long ago and May Be a police or movie studio collection Number That May well Be in a Factory Ledgers. The Late Roll dye Marking with .44-40 Is quite scarce.
