Colt Single Action Army revolver, 5-1/2” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, .45 caliber, cartouched wood grips, artillery series, rack marked “46” on top of backstrap, serial #116650, and all matching serialnumbers. Refer Colt Cavalry and Artillery Revolvers by Kopec and Fenn, page 147 where it is illustrated and discussed that this is one of 400 requested by Alfred M. Scales, governor of North Carolina. A copy of hisoriginal request letter is illustrated on page 146. The Colt remains in original very good plus to near fine condition showing 90-95% plus original blue on the barrel, some slight thinning on the edges, just beginning normal age. The front sight is its correct sight and shows correct feathering or polishing around the sight. The ejector rod housing shows 85-95% original blue, just slightly thinning on the edge and front. Theframe shows 25-35% case hardening drifting to silver grey with some good colorful rainbow hues where protected.
