Colt Single Action Army revolver, .45 caliber, 7-1/2” barrel, US Cavalry series, inspected by Lewis Draper, serial #31755. A documenting letter from noted single action expert, John Kopec is included. The serial number of this revolver falls between known examples of Troop G, 3rd Cavalry. Mr. Kopec summarizes in his documenting letter that this revolver is 100% authentic and that the grips are in perfect original condition. This Colt shows traces of original blue on barrel, drifting to patina, with scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting and a couple of small areas of slightly heavier pitting. The front sight is its full height and shows original finish also. The ejector rod housing shows 30-50% blue in the groove and some light to moderate erosion and pitting on the outer edge. The cylinder shows considerable blue in the flutes, approx. 20%, with scattered light to moderate erosion and a couple of slightly heavier areas. The frame shows 40-60% case hardening overall with some bright and fiery areas and balance gone to patina with some beginning erosion and light to moderate pitting just starting. The backstrap and triggerguard show 30-50% thinning original blue, going to patina, with some scaling, light erosion and pinprick pitting. The grips are near fine with fully visible cartouches, showing just some slight handling and wear at the edges (Mr. Kopec describes them as near perfect). Considerable original blue on trigger, 50% case hardening on hammer, tight action, bright bore, all matching serial numbers, proper markings, and correct ejector rod housing, spring, and small parts. Note: Rarely do we see an authenticating letter by Mr. Kopec with one-hundred percent authentic as these pistols were issued, used on the frontier, and returned to the arsenals. Est: $17,500 - $27,500
