Colt Single Action Army revolver, .45 caliber, 5-1/2” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, hardrubber grips, butt factory roll die stamped “W. F. & Co” on butt. Shipped February 4th, 1907 to W. M.Ashton, purchasing agent, New York, NY, 12 guns in shipment. All features confirmed by factory letter. With “REA” express company letter dated 1967 to noted collector Willis Neuwirth confirming serial #287972 as onepurchased by Wells Fargo with copies of original inventory cards and three other numbers listed as authenticatable at that time by REA of St. Louis, MO. The revolver retains 30-50% original blue and casehardening evenly drifting and toning, some light scattered erosion and minor surface pitting. All matching visible serial numbers, good grips, good markings, good action, bright bore. Front sight slimmed slightly.Original documentation states ‘put into service 1907’. An exceptionally well authenticated Wells Fargo with both factory letter and REA letter (successor to Wells Fargo). From the Robert Hoelscher Collection.
