Colt Single Action Army revolver, .45 Colt caliber, 4-3/4” barrel, fully and finely master engraved and signed by John Warren. Beautifully checkered ivory grips, fine quality scroll engraving that Warren was noted for. Serial #179035. Manufactured about 1897-98. The pistol shows very close cut and well executed Warren-type scrolls. The checkered ivory grips are very well made and nicely checkered and Warren was as recognized for his work in ivory as his engraving. The pistol is signed in small block letters on the bottom front edges of the backstrap. The pistol shows a deep rust-blue type finish, which was restored at time of engraving, and 99% remains just toning slightly, a slight index line, crisp edges, fine bore, good action, hammer a post-war addition. Action rebuilt. John Warren generally is considered one of the premier engravers of the 20th century whose master works from the 1950’s to 1970’s were considered among the best ever accomplished in their time. His masterpieces of engraving are pictured on the covers of many magazines and in reference works such as The Book of Colt Firearms by R.Q Sutherland and R.L. Wilson. He was particularly noted for his high
