Colt Single Action Army revolver, .44-40 caliber, blue and case hardened finish, varnish wood grips, serial #40956. The rear of triggerguard bow is stamped .44 CF and the barrel appears to have never been etched. The barrel retains 20-30% original blue within a browning patina with some very bright blue on the sight and where protected. The front sight has been slimmed just slightly. The barrel address is sharp, the ejector rod housing shows 40-60% original blue, mostly in the groove and bottom, thinning on the edge and also bright. The cylinder shows 20-30% dulling blue drifting to brown. The frame shows traces of case hardening going to browning patina with some case color near the hammer where protected and in the groove on top of frame. The cylinder shows an index line between the cylinder stops. Dates are sharp and crisp. The triggerguard and backstrap show 10-20% blue where protected, the varnish wood grips show 80-90% varnish with some small losses and wear at the edges. The hammer shows 20-30% case hardening and is its correct early type. The action is type, the bore is very good plus. The cylinder pin and early ejector rod head are retained.
