Colt Single Action Army revolver, .44-40 cal., 5-1/2" barrel, blue and case hardened finish, raised carved medallion pearl grips showing steer head on right side, serial #174185 made about 1896-97. The revolvershows roll die marked Colt Frontier Six Shooter on left side of barrel. The revolver retains 30-50% original blue and case hardening drifting to a light patina with some scattered erosion, pinprick pitting, normal aging and just a small amount of cleaning long ago. The front sight is slightly trimmed, the grips are very good+ with deep set medallions facing the same direction, and fit well, show a couple smallchips. The action is not working properly or holding on full cock, the bore is very good. An attractive single action with very nice factory grips that are slightly later in the period. Est.: $2,000-$4,000
