Colt Single Action Army U.S. Cavalry series .45 cal., 7 ½” bbl, Ainsworth inspected, wood grips, serial #1912. This 1st year production Cavalry was made in 1873 with Kopec letter stating in his opinion it was issued to the 6th Cavalry. He further documents: 1. The ejector assembly is a 3rd type replacement. 2. The base pin is a modern replacement. 3. Blemishes have been “smoothed” on underside of bbl when housing was missing. 4. The front of trigger guard has been filed slightly making “A” faint. 5. Ejector screw hole has been bushed. 6. The hammer is an 1880’s replacement. 7. The grips show no number but appear correct. In conclusion Kopec states “A very respectable representation of a U.S. Cavalry 1st year Revolver which saw considerable service during the Indian Wars. We could find no attempts at purposeful fakery on this example.” Note: Some of Mr. Kopec’s long letter has been summarized and a copy is available to perspective buyers. The original condition is good with the above noted minor defects. The Colt shows a patina finish with slight traces of finish where protected. Some light cleaning and minor pitting. Good marking, grips show a couple of large chips and losses at toes but otherwise good. Sharp, good action, good bore and front sight slightly reduced. A Western used Cavalry that saw likely service with the 6th Cavalry stationed at Fort Apache, Arizona. Est. $7,000-14,000
