Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter
Colt Single Action Army revolver manufactured in 1899. The revolver has a commercial high polish blue barrel, ejector housing cylinder, trigger guard and backstrap. The frame, loading gate and hammer have a color casehardened finish. The two-piece, black, hard rubber grips are checkered with the Rampant Colt trademark in an oval at the top. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one-line, 'elongated block' legend: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The left side of the barrel is marked: "45 COLT." and the bottom of the barrel is stamped with the caliber designation "45" just ahead of the frame. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt 'three-date/two-line' patent markings followed by the encircled Rampant Colt trademark. The full serial number, "188154" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and backstrap. All of the visible serial numbers match. The inside of the loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "858". The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number. ".45/c" caliber, 7 1/2" barrel, blue finish with grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 25 to Hartley & Graham, N.Y., N.Y. on August 10, 1899.

Very fine. The revolver retains approximately 60% of the original blue and 40% case-hardened finish. The blue is thin on contact points on the barrel ejector housing and cylinder and the backstrap and grip strap have a silver-gray patina. Most of the case colors are present on the frame, hammer and loading gate with some silvering on the recoil shields and the top strap. The barrel and frame markings are crisp. The bore is bright. The hard rubber grips are in very good overall condition with some minor dents and handling marks. The action is crisp and functions perfectly. This is a very fine, completely original, example of one of the last Colt Single Action Army revolvers manufactured in the 19th Century.
