Colt Single Action Army Revolver, .45 Long Colt caliber, 10” barrel, nickel finish, one-piece ivory grips, fully D-engraved in Nimschke style by Denise Thirion showing no patent date on left side of frame. Serial #SA73267. Featured in full page of The Colt Engraving Book, page 827, by R. L. Wilson. The Single Action is showing a black-powder type frame with no spring. Screw in bottom of frame. Interestingly, the pistol was shipped without markings and has no barrel address or patent dates. The engraving is very finely accomplished in the 19th century style with checkerboards and ropes, reminiscent of L. D. Nimschke. The left side shows a panel of Indian scouting two buffalo. The right side shows Teepees on plains. The hammer shows a wolf’s head. The pistol shows no firing or use, just some age to the ivory. Denise Thirion in our opinion is a very underrated engraver and the quality of the engraving rivals the panel guns created for Colt exhibitions in the 19th century. From the Robert Petersen Collection. Est: $4,000 - $8,000
