Colt Single Action Army .38 WCF SN: 190061
Vintage single action revolver manufactured circa 1899. Features blued & case color finish, checkered black composition grips with "Rampant Colt" logos, 4.75" barrel, fluted 6 shot cylinder. Serial number repeated on triggerguard. No numbers observed on backstrap. Bottom of barrel & cylinder face numbered "587 B", as are trigger guard and backstrap (does not show unless grips removed). Gate numbered "808". Bore is fair to good condition, lightly pitted and eroded, strong rifling. Retains 40% finish, with moderate edge losses on all high surfaces and edges, scratches and dings, handling wear to grip straps, heavy drag line, sharp barrel markings. Case colors faded to dull silver, limited mottling hinting at former colors, shallow pinprick pits across frame sides, patent lines partially eroded. Grips are good to very good, smoothing of features, color shifting towards dark chocolate brown, dents on bottom edges. Action is smooth, with good lock-up. Firing pin does not have any "float", appears slightly modified, and strikes frame upon "firing". Hammer unable to rotate fully down, firing pin protrudes into frame enough that the revolver probably will fire a cartridge. Included factory letter states this revolver shipped to "Wyeth Hardware Company, St Joseph Missouri" on October 6th, 1899. Caliber, barrel length and finish match the letter, stocks not listed.
