Colt Second Generation Single Action Army Revolver Inscribed to Actor John Hart with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1970. This revolver is gold inlaid inscribed "John Hart". John Hart was a television and movie actor who began his career in 1937 with bit parts in a variety of B pictures before appearing in two Cecil B. DeMille's films, "The Buccaneer" (1938) and "North West Mounted Police", (1940). He was drafted into the service in 1941 and following his service he returned to acting in Westerns and was offered to replace Clayton Moore on "The Lone Ranger" television series. Hart starred in 52 episodes before the producers returned Moore in 1954. Through his career he was in numerous movies and was in an occasional episode of television shows such as "Happy Days", "Rawhide" and "The Greatest American Hero". John Hart died on September 20, 2009. Accompanying the revolver is a short typed letter from Hart stating this gun (53628SA) was his and a hand written note to an individual that purchased from him stating it was his, with a Certificate of Authenticity from Hart's agent verifying the signature of John Hart as authentic. This gun is also pictured in Volume I "Guns That Talk" by Lefever and Root on page 251. The revolver has the standard one line address on top of the barrel, "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 357 MAGNUM" on the left and the two line, three patent dates are marked on the left side of the frame followed by the Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame and on the left side of the grip straps under the grip and the inside of each grip panel is marked "628". Blue with casehardened frame and fitted with checkered Rampant Colt/American eagle relief grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish, rubber grips and that it was shipped as 1 of 2 to Sportsmans Center, Springfield, Illinois on March 25, 1970.

Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 97% original blue finish with some muzzle wear and a small area of scratches directly ahead of the trigger guard. The frame retains 99% original bright case colors. The grips are also excellent with some scuffing on the bottom of the left panel and sharp checkering. The markings are sharp. The action is excellent.
