Colt SAA revolver, Sheriff’s Model, .45 Colt cal., 3 1/2” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, raised carved pearl grips, shipped to Simmons Hardware Co., St. Louis, MO., for W.M. C. Hill, Sept. 27, 1901, three guns in shipment, all features confirmed by factory letter except grips “Not Listed”, #198313. The revolver remains in very good+ original condition showing 75%-85% original blue on barrel and cylinder evenly drifting and toning with some scattered erosion and pin prick pitting just starting. The frame shows 20%-30% case hardening drifting to a silvery grey with some minor erosion and pin prick pitting also starting and some good rainbow colors showing where protected particularly at the front of the frame. The back strap and trigger guard show 40%-60% toning original blue; the carved pearl grips fit impeccably, are extra fat and are nicely carved with a raised steer head showing faux ruby eyes. The grips are very good+ and near fine with iridescent rainbow hues and just some natural aging and one or two chips that are minor. The markings are sharp; the action is crisp; the bore is very good+. An authenticating letter by noted author and Single Action expert Ron Graham is included (Mr. Graham states that this is one of the finest Sheriff’s Models known with 85% of its original blue). Sophisticated Single Action collectors believe the condition of this Sheriff’s Model to be in the top range of known specimens. Est.: $40,000-$80,000.
