Colt SAA revolver, 45 cal., 7-1/2” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, hard rubber grips, #102588. Consignor’s notes indicate shipped to J.F. Schmelzer and Sons, Kansas City, KS, 1886. The Colt retains approx. 40%-60% original blue onbarrel, drifting on left side with some beginning erosion, pin prick pitting, natural age and toning; the ejector rod housing retains 30%-60% original blue mostly in the groove; the cylinder shows 30%-50% blue which is thinning but stillbright in the flutes with an index line between the cylinder stops; the frame shows 40%-60% case hardening with some visible rainbow hues where protected. The backstrap and trigger guard show 30%-50% thinning and aging original blue finish;the hard rubber eagle grips are good to very good with just some slight edge wear; the hammer shows traces of original finish, the front sight has been narrowed a slight amount at the top; the original hammer and cylinder pin are retained; the action is good, the bore is good; all matching serial numbers; A far above average early blackpowder single action almost never found with this much blue and according to our consignor, shipped to the heart of the cattle country during
