Colt SAA revolver, .45 cal., 5-1/2” barrel, engraved in the Western style of late 19th century, gold wash, one piece ivory grips, #90837 with factory letter confirming caliber and barrel length, indicating original finish as nickel andleaving factory with rubber grips, shipped to Simmons Hardware Co., St. Louis, Missouri on April 24, 1883, 50 guns in shipment. This gun is in overall good condition as custom engraved and re-furbished with a crisp action, nicelyaccomplished engraving, approx. 40% gold wash remaining, serial numbers have been re-stamped, bore shows scattered areas of pitting, grips show age cracklature and yellowing; gun is contained in a modern oak presentation case with maroon velvet lining; paperwork also includes information on the history of the Simmons Hardware Co. who during the late 19th and early 20th centuries were one of Colt’s major commercial distributors of firearms in the United States.
