Colt SAA revolver, .44-40 etched barrel shortened to 5-1/2” nickel finish, checkered hard rubber eagle grips, #71377 with factory letter confirming caliber and finish, barrel length and type of stocks “Not Listed”; shipped to J.P. Moores Sons, New York, NY on Nov. 12, 1881, 15 guns in shipment. This gun is in overall very good to near fine condition showing approx. 70% original finish, considerable original light etched panel of “Colt Frontier Six Shooter” remains visible on left side of barrel, very good bore, sharp markings, very good action, good grips that are a decent fit to this gun but are slightly undersized at the rear of the butt strap and likely off another similar period SAA; unusual period front sight that consignor was told had been used to shoot glass target balls in an early Wild West Show when he purchased the gun many years ago; no written provenance to that effect but we can’t argue with the concept given the shape and sighting picture provided. Est.: $3,000-$6,000.
