Colt SAA revolver, 38-40 cal., 4 3/4” barrel, factory engraved, nickel plated, raised carved pearl grips, shipped to Simmons Hardware Co., St. Louis, MO., for L.L. Neel, Sept. 21, 1894, with all features confirmed by factory letter, except grips “Not Listed”, #155469. The Single Action remains in good to very good condition showing 30%-50% original nickel evenly lifting and areas where the finish has lifted going to a light grey to brown patina finish with some scattered erosion and pin prick pitting starting where the nickel has lifted. There is some slightly heavier pitting on the front of the muzzle and front of the cylinder but generally good and sharp overall. The raised carved pearl grips are extra fat and fit impeccably and show a nicely carved steer head in high relief. The front sight shows a couple of nicks, there is some honest wear and use but generally very good overall with considerable original nickel on the hammer; good sharp markings; the front sight is nearly its full height; good action; fair to good bore; all matching visible serial numbers. A very respectable and far better-than-average engraved Single Action with exceptional grips and an interesting person to whom it was shipped, L.L. Neel who may be researchable. Est.: $30,000-$60,000.
