Antique Colt Single Action Army Revolver, with Pre-War Bohlin Grips, #173450, .44-40 cal., 5-1/2'' barrel, blue with case hardened finish, foliate and floral engraved silver Bohlin grips with applied 10K long-horn steerhead to right panel. Interior of grips marked ''Bohlinmade/Calif./Hollywood''; right panel additionally marked ''Sterling/10-K''. This revolver was originally shipped to G.M. Williams Co., New London, Conn., Oct 13, 1897, in a 24-gun shipment. With factory letter verifying all features, except grips were originally listed as rubber. Barrel is roll marked ''Colt Frontier Six Shooter'', with two-line three-date patent markings to left side of frame. Later purchased and embellished for Mr. Lewis G. Carlisle (1914-1982). A nephew of Allen Pinkerton and pilot for the world-champion LA Dodgers, Carlisle was a Yale graduate who excelled as a member of their rowing team in 1933. Mr. Carlisle was the son of Jay F. Carlisle, a NY stockbroker. Condition is fine. Barrel and ejector rod housing retain approx. 95% original blue. Cylinder with 85%-90% thinning blue. Frame retains approx. 70% vivid case colors with thinning and silvering. Backstrap and triggerguard show 85%-90% blue. Grips remain in excellent condition showing only light wear. Grip screw slots with minor aberrations. Action is good and tight, bore is bright. Est.: $7,500-$10,000. (Antique)
