4 3/4" barrel, blue and case hardened finish, hard rubber grips. Retains silver gray finish with visible blue in protected areas, visible case color to frame and hammer, all matching visible serial numbers, grips as reworked. Action fair, shinny bore and good rifling. Includes factory, family letters and unmarked double looped holster showing repairs. Gun was owned by US Marshall Bud Ledbetter and given to Ed Thompsons father who gave it to him in 1898. Ed Thompson, local Miles City Montana rancher. Letter states after an altercation with pistol in Terry Montana the gun was thrown to the ground breaking the original grips. Later taken to a Miles City gun shop where replacement grips were somewhat crudely fitted in the 1940's. Letter further states Ed Thompson came to Montana around 1900 from the Oklahoma Territories where he left because the sheriff came to arrest his uncle Jim Newman a member of the Al Jennings Gang.
