Colt Police Positive .38 cal., double-action revolver, 6” barrel, nicely scroll engraved, hard rubber grips, back strap inscribed Salitrera Antofagasta. The revolver shows some light to moderate erosion and surface pitting and someslightly heavier areas of pitting on the sides of the barrel from being holstered. The hard rubber grips are very good. The action is good; the bore slightly rough. This silver has been restored long ago. The revolver is contained within apartition-style red velveteen-lined old original ‘to the period’ casing, which shows a very fancy Art Nouveau plaque at its top and an elaborate hinge, which is engraved with what may be a French maker’s hallmark. The plaque is inscribed withinitials and silver-plated over brass. The balance of the casing is a book-type leather casing. The inscription on the pistol has to do with mining in Chile.
