Spectacular Nickel plated Signature Series Cased 1860 Colt Army revolver. A fabulous and rare early 4 screw 1860 Army revolver with all the accouterments also signature of Sam Colt. The revolver ,powder flask, bullet mold, nipple wrench, and cap tin are all signature “Sam Colt” and the beautiful walnut case is embossed “Colt” case has the old time skeleton key lock. A little history:After a failed attempt at modifying his third model Dragoon to make it lighter and easier to handle Colt combined the frame of his ’51 Navy with the .44 caliber dragoon and a new smoother light weight barrel and cylinder assembly to create the highly successful 1860 Army Model. The first of these shipped from Hartford has fluted cylinders 7 ½ “barrels and a Navy size grip. The gradual improvements were an 8” barrel with a larger Army size grip so gloved Calvary could better handle, non fluted cylinder and a four screw configuration allowing for a shoulder stock as this nickel example has.The 1860 Army has been said to be the most beautiful design of all of Colts firearms. This beautiful example is the epitome of beauty, rarity,(very few nickel 1860 Army’s were ever produced ,thought to be special order only. This arm reigned king in both the military and civilian frontiersman until the introduction of the 1873 Single Action Army Colt Peacemaker. State: City: Date: ID#45764
