Colt Model 1911 Commercial Series Government Model, .45 ACP cal., high polish blue finish, checkered wood medallion grips, with holster, shipped to Lt. Kenyon A. Joyce, March 5, 1913, one gun in shipment, withfeatures and recipient noted in factory letter, serial #C2988. Kenyon Ash Joyce had a long career and was a classmate and friend of General George S. Patton. He enlisted in the Army in 1898 as a Private, and he rose to the rank of Major General; he was wounded by a grenade in WWI and lost the use of a hand. He received the Distinguished Service Medal and the French Croix de Guerre. He had a very interesting service record, from thePhilippines to the capture of Ute Indians on Little Power River, Montana, 1906. He served with distinction in WWI, and later he was the Commander of the 9th Army Corp., Ft. Lewis, WA. He was one of the most well known officers in the United States military, and his funeral was attended by President and Mrs. Eisenhower in 1960. There also seems to be a close connection between Patton and Ernest Hemmingway to this career officer,
