Colt Model 1905 Semi-Automatic Pistol
This is an example of a Colt Model 1905 Semi-Automatic Pistol that was manufactured in 1907. The pistol has the Colt high polish commercial blue finish on the slide and frame, casehardened spur hammer and two-piece checkered walnut grips. The 7-shot magazine has a full blue finish. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the third pattern marking adopted around serial number 700: "PATENTED / APR.20.1897.SEPT.9.1902.DEC.19.1905" followed by "COLTS PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO. / HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A.". The encircled Rampant Colt trademark is located on the left side of the slide behind the grip serrations. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped: "AUTOMATIC COLT / CALIBRE 45 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in two lines in front of the ejection port. The serial number, "1902" is located on the left side of the frame above the trigger guard. The Colt "Triangle V/P" proofmark is stamped on the upper left side of the trigger guard bow and the assembler's mark "1" is stamped on the lower trigger guard bow near the frame. The pistol is complete with a post-war brown carton for a Colt Commander, a wire cleaning brush in paper sleeve and a copy of Model 1905 instruction sheet. Produced in limited numbers from 1905-1911, the Colt Model 1905 Semi-Automatic Pistol was the direct predecessor to the Colt Model 1911.
BBL: 5 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 45 Colt Auto
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 1902
Condition: Very good plus. The pistol shows moderate wear and retains 40% of the original commercial blue finish. Half of the niter blue finish is visible on the trigger and traces of fiery blue remain on other small parts. The grips have moderate-heavy handling wear and are in good condition with flattened checkering. The front sight has been filed to alter the profile. The spur hammer has a half-cock notch and is the pattern adopted about serial number 3600. This is a very good example of a scarce and important Colt Model 1905 Semi-Automatic Pistol.
