Colt Model 1905 Semi-Automatic Pistol with Factory Letter
The Model 1905 pistol was a direct predecessor to the Model 1911 with a total production of 6,100 from 1905 to 1911. This pistol was manufactured in 1910. The right side of the slide is marked "AUTOMATIC COLT / CALIBRE 45 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in front of the ejection port. The left side of the slide is marked in two blocks: "PATENTED / APR. 20. 1897. SEPT. 9. 1902. DEC. 19. 1905" and "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD CONN. U.S.A." with the circled Rampant Colt behind the serrations. The serial number is located on the left side of the frame above the trigger guard bow. The upper left trigger guard bow bears the Colt "VP" triangle proof and the lower is marked with a "W". Early spur hammer version with half-cock notch and casehardened finish. The remainder of the gun is finished in the standard Colt high-polish blue, except for the trigger, extractor, slide stop, and magazine release, which are niter blue. The grips are checkered walnut with the diamond pattern around the screws and the magazine is absent. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, ".45/c" caliber, 5" barrel, blue finish with grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 2 to Seattle Hardware Co., Seattle, Wa on January 31, 1911.

Very good. The slide retains scattered traces of the dark original finish with the balance having a grayish brown patina with some scattered minor pitting. The frame sides retain 40% of the original finish with minor flaking, scratches and areas of brown. The balance of the frame has a smooth gray patina. Most of the original fire blue remains on the trigger and slide stop. The barrel retains most of the original finish thinning on the chamber. The grips are good with some moderate wear, a few scattered minor dings and dents, and mostly crisp checkering. The hammer will not decock due to the recoil spring follower being absent and not allowing the slide to move forward fully. The markings are clear. Missing the magazine.
