Colt Model 1905 Military Semi-Automatic Pistol with Extra Magazine

This is an excellent condition Colt Commercial Model 1905 Military pistol. This was Colt's first semi-automatic pistol that fired the new 45 ACP round. There were only 6,100 manufactured in total with this example made in late 1907. This model was the true forerunner to the Model 1911 series of pistol, which was used by the U.S. Government for the next 80 years. The right side of the slide is marked "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 45 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in front of the ejection port, and the left side is marked in two blocks "PATENTED/APR. 20. 1897. SEPT. 9. 1902. DEC. 19. 1905." and "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." with the circled Rampant Colt behind the serrations. The serial number "2450" is located on the left side of the frame above the trigger guard bow. The upper left trigger guard bow bares the Colt "VP/triangle" proof and the lower is marked with a "6". Early round spur hammer version with half-cock notch and casehardened finish. The grips are an early light colored checkered walnut versions with the diamond pattern around the screws. The pistol has the Colt high polish blue finish with the trigger, extractor and magazine release, having the Colt nitre blue finish. It is complete with an extra blued magazine with one contained in a small leather pocket pouch. On the back side of the pouch flap "J.R. STROHL/SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS." is written in ink, and below that it is marked "J.A.S.TROHL/P.L.C.S. MESHOPPEN Pa.".

Very fine with 85% plus of the original Colt blue finish showing general light thinning on the sides of the slide, with a slightly more thinning on the front and rear grip strap, intermixed with some brown patina. The markings are clear and sharp. The grips are very fine with nice original checkering on both sides showing light wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with some minor handling marks and small nicks. This is a nice example of a fairly scarce late production pistol that is seldom seen in this condition.
