Colt Model 1905 45ACP Military Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is an excellent condition Colt commercial Model 1905 Military pistol. This was Colt's first semi-automatic pistol that fired the new 45 ACP round. There were only 6100 manufactured in total with this example made in 1911. This model was the true forerunner to the Model 1911 series of pistol, which was used by the US Government for the next 80 years. The right side of the slide is marked "AUTOMATIC COLT / CALIBRE 45 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in front of the ejection port, and the left side is marked in two blocks "PATENTED / APR. 20. 1897. SEPT. 9. 1902. DEC. 19. 1905." and "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." with the circled Rampant Colt behind the serrations. The serial number (5424) is located on the left side of the frame above the trigger guard bow. The upper left trigger guard bow bears the Colt "VP/triangle" proof and the lower is marked with a "W". Early spur hammer version with half-cock notch and casehardened finish. The grips are that early light colored checkered walnut versions with the diamond pattern around the screws. The pistols has the Colt high-polish blue finish overall with the trigger, extractor and magazine release, having the Colt niter blue finish. It is complete with one 1905, all blue magazine.

Gauge: 45 ACP
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 5424

Very fine with 80% of the original Colt blue finish overall with light thinning of the blue finish overall with slightly more blue loss on the grip straps mixed with some brown patina. The grips are in fine condition with nice original checkering on both sides showing light wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with some minor handling marks and small nicks on both sides, but nothing unsightly. This is a really nice example of fairly scarce late production pistol that is seldom seen in this condition.
