**Colt Model 1903 semi-automatic pistol, .32 caliber, 3.75” barrel, S/N 457939, blued finish, checkered wood medallion grips, two-tone magazine, inscribed on right side of frame “E.C. Yellowley”. This gun is in overall fine to excellent condition showing little use or handling; accompanied by a tooled leather flap holster and previously in the possession of famous Illinois collector and dealer Arnold Marcus Chernoff prior to its residence for years in the estate of a Southern California collector. Yellowley was Chief of the Treasury Department’s alcohol tax unit in the Illinois/Indiana/Wisconsin region who became the subject of an investigation by U.S. Attorney Michael Igoe for Yellowley’s alleged failure to “round up” the kingpins of illicit liquor trafficking in the Chicago area and for transferring many of his local agents to other assignments outside the region (see Chicago Tribune, March 11, 1937).
