Manufactured in 1917. This pistol has the square butt, slide lock on the left side of the slide, lanyard swivel and the longer eight-round magazine that distinguish it from the Colt Model 1902 "Sporting" pistol. Features rear slide serrations, blue barrel and "MIL. / COLT / 38 CAL" marked two tone magazine. Left side of the slide is roll stamped with the standard two block two line patent dates and Hartford address, with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations. Standard two line caliber markings on the right side of the slide. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with a "1" assembler's mark on the lower rear and the Colt "VP/triangle" proofmark on the front top. The upper left rear of the slide and frame are marked with a "crown / V" British proofmark, there is a "JJ" marked on the bottom of the frame on the right side directly above the trigger guard and the barrel chamber is marked with a "crown / V" and "crown / GP" proof. The front strap is stamped "5096". Fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with "COLT" in a banner at the top and the Rampant Colt in a circle in the center.

Condition: Very fine as partially refinished. The slide retains 99% factory quality refurbished bright blue finish with some minor wear at he muzzle end and a few minor scratches. The frame retains 70% bright original finish with scattered flaking. The grip straps and exposed areas have a smooth grayish brown patina with strong original finish on the grip straps. The grips are excellent with some minor dings and handling marks, and crisp checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
