Colt Model 1871-72 Open Top cartridge revolver, .44RF cal., 7-1/2” barrel, nickel finish, raised carved ivory snake and eagle grips, #1642. Factory letter accompanies this gun and verifies caliber, barrel length and finish, stocks not listed,shipped to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham, New York, NY on September 6, 1873 in a shipment of 31 guns. This gun shows approx. 65% nickel finish with balance gone to a dark grey patina, matching visible serial numbers except cylinder which isun-numbered but retaining approx. 95% cylinder scene; bore may clean to good, crisp action, good markings, lovely old ivory raised carved snake and eagle grips that are in overall good condition showing honest wear, beautiful color with someslight old edge losses and somewhat undersized for this gun but definitely period. An untouched desirable Open Top with factory letter. Only approx. 7,000 were produced between 1872 and 1873. Est.: $6,000-$7,000.
