Manufactured during the Civil War in 1863. The top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S.AMERICA", the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT", and "36 CAL" is marked on the left trigger guard shoulder. One cylinder flute is marked with the 1850 patent date. The full matching serial number is stamped on the underside of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and the wedge has been renumbered to match, "9232". Brass cone front and hammer notch rear sights, the barrel and cylinder are blue, the frame, loading lever, and hammer casehardened and the trigger guard and back strap silver plated brass. Fitted with an attractive modern replacement, one-piece ivory grip with an American eagle carved on the left side.

Condition: Fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 30% original blue finish mainly in the protected areas with a smooth brown and gray patina. The frame retains 25% original case colors concentrated in the protected areas. The grip straps retain 70% original silver plating which has darkened with age. The exposed brass has a natural aged patina. The replacement grip is very fine with an attractive grain and mellow light patina. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
